Floor Hockey

Floor hockey was one of the few games I was any good at. The rules were pretty much the same as regular hockey, except you played in the gym, with a thick ring of felt about the size of a dinner plate and sticks that had no blade. Our puck looked official enough, but there was no money for sticks, and Mr. Mason told us that, if we wanted to play, we’d better bring in a broomstick or something from home.
I’d like to see Mr. Mason ask my mother to give up a broom she’d paid good money for.

  3. He looks pretty excited in that shot! Kids still play it today and have competitions at school...makes a great game for a miserable winter's day!

  4. That sounds, and looks from the photo, fun.
I can remember playing field hockey at school in the middle of winter, in shorts, and with the wind coming off the Irish sea, how attractive the thought of a warm indoor floor hockey would have been to us.

  7. I didn't know those rings were made of thick felt -- interesting. Good one for the letter F.

  10. Broom hockey was one of our favorite games as teenagers but your mother was right to be wary- very few of our brooms survived! Fun post, good memories.
