Lucy’s eyes were as big as dinner plates, “Tell me more!”
“Well,” began Nim “It just kept coming through the door.” She saw the hungry look in her sister’s eyes and warmed to her theme, “There were bags, and cans and those shiny shrink-wrapped packages . . . ”
“Oooh . . . those are expensive!” said Lucy, who was always careful with her kibble. “But is it true? Did you bite Jude?”
“Naw,” Nim worried her paw. “Just keeping it real.” She grew thoughtful. “And then, as quickly as it came, it all went away.”
“Wow,” said Lucy, “that’s the saddest story I have ever heard.”
