When I do get to fly somewhere important, I want everyone to know where I’m going. To New York, for instance, they’ll tag my luggage with a JFK that can be read from the other end of the terminal. LHR still holds a certain cachet. And AKL suggests I have both the time and money to travel the world.
It’s the trip back to YYZ that gets me, landing on that grass strip at the end of the milk run, guided in by the same guys who didn’t even bother to show up the day they were handing out codes.

And Sometimes Yankee: I happen to know the International Radio Alphabet, but other than entertaining the kids, and one green question from the Genus edition of Trivial Pursuit, it’s mostly useless information. I have yet to see a job posting that lists it as a requirement. And even when it might be useful, like giving serial numbers over the phone, I’m never sure the other party won’t be thrown by Romeo and Juliet. So I try to use more common examples and end up winging it, sometimes poorly. They might sound dated, but surely Sierra and Foxtrot are better than Estuary and Effigy.

ReplyDeleteYouth is my Y, have a great year of the dragon.
This might have been good information a month ago when we inadvertently flew my mom in law into Billy Bishop instead of Toronto International. Lucky for us, she likes an adventure... and we weren't the ones picking her up. :)
