A mouse runs from the subway train,
along the rail and down the drain
and wishes he was home again
and that he’d listened to his mom
who warned him that the train might come
and cried out when he stood too near
the edge pretending not to hear
and watched the mice and wondered how
they knew the train was coming now
with screaming wheels, the rails groaned
and left his mother all alone;
and he among the grit and grime
now had to find a place in time
to hide before another train
chased his friends away again.

ReplyDeleteThat was a cute mouse/mice poem. I hope they all found safe places to live. ; )
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit to my ABC Wednesday post today.
I think it may be safer if all mice moved to the country!
ReplyDeleteWhew, I guess he made it to outsmart the train for another day.

ReplyDeleteA hard life and all in the day of a mouse!! You have an excellent poem here well written!!
ReplyDeleteYou're lucky it was only a mouse you saw onthe subway tracks... where I live they're more like RUS's (from Golman's The Princess Bride -rodents of unusual size)!!!

ReplyDeleteA Memorable Mousey M.
ReplyDeleteAw, lovely! I like this tale of the mouse.
ReplyDeleteI was there. It was like a movie. How wonderfully you animated and personified the little mouse. The rhyme gave it flair and personality but didn't make it feel arch or strained. What a nice present, so well written!
ReplyDeletewhat an adventure for the mouse,
ReplyDeletegreat imagery,
Happy New Year.
Cute poem/story! I hope you write children's verse; I think you'd be very good at it.
ReplyDeletewhat a cute story and a great way to explain the random running back and forth of a mouse at the subway.
