Colleen

Colleen was a playwright working as a secretary. I was a technical writer working on a novel. I helped her with Microsoft Word, and she offered to read one of my postcard stories.
I’d worked really hard to make it short, but she wanted more. “Who are they?” she asked. “Where do they live? In what shaped world?”
And so, even though I feel she’d missed what I was trying to do, her enthusiasm encouraged me to work up this new ending in which I never finish my book, but she ends up winning the Governor General’s Award for drama.
