Regulate not, the Pillars of Finance said, and we shall support a great boom.
And the government did not regulate, and people purchased homes, and lenders purchased Porsches; and it was good.
Until a single Pillar turned to salt; and verily the others did quake and tremble. Government must act, they wailed, before we turn to salt and fail. And government did heed their prayers and act to save the Pillars – but not the unrighteous homebuyers.
When the Pillars ceased to sway, the lenders said, Regulate not, and we shall again support a boom; and it was good for them.
