On our trip back from the Jersey Shore, we passed through the town of
Intercourse, a small town in Pennsylvania with a shop on one side of the road—selling assorted knick-knacks and quilts made by the local Amish—and a lonely motel on the other. I insisted we stop, hoping to find something to add to my collection of kitschy souvenirs, but we really should have stayed overnight, if only to have the town come up in conversation one day, and so allow us to dismiss it with the weary cynicism of the seasoned traveller: “Been there, done that.”

ReplyDeleteWe passed through there a few years ago myself.
ReplyDeleteOf course we had to buy a magnet from there just to have the name.
I wouln't want to live there but maybe take a quick drive through as you did.

ReplyDeleteWe were there in the early 1990s on the way around the countryside after the Hershy Antique Auto Swap, had a fine meal!

Ha. Well, it does make a kind of sense - in terms of geography, but agree with you, would have been a conversation stopper of sorts. Especially if you were on your way to Viagra Falls. k.
