The Elvis tearjerker
Don’t Cry Daddy sang of family solidarity and paternal stolidity belying a widower’s grief. Here, a son and his brother “Little Tommy” try to convince their dad that “together they could find a brand-new Mommy.” I hate that song. The dead mother-lost husband/son theme has been served up for years. Think Disney chocolate-covered nightmares like the Lion King and Bambi. The mother killed off so we feel sorry for the hero. If Rich and Dan went trolling for my replacement before a decent grieving period, say twenty years, I would definitely come back and pull their toes.
