Poor Begonia Pope suffers from a rather serious case of anterograde amnesia, which means that, although she can still remember things from before her accident, she can no longer form new memories. She can’t recall what she was doing five minutes ago, for instance, but she still knows how to knit. She’ll be making a scarf, but soon forget why she started or even how far she’s gotten, yard after yard without once looking down, beautiful and eccentric creations that never fail to fetch a good price on the High Street.
And so her family just keeps feeding her yarn.

ReplyDeleteRoy, this is so fun. Love the last line. The fact is, my 91 year old mom is a bit like this. No knitting--but she can tell you what she was wearing 60 years ago,but can't remember what she did today. At least she knows who we are! Sorry I'm late in responding. I'm needing to curtail blogging for a week or two...back problems. But thanks for linking to last weeks prompts.
ReplyDeletePosted to ABC Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteI think we are ALL like that, to a greater or lesser degree...

I can relate to this. Well written. Carver, ABC Wed. Team
ReplyDeleteI love the scarf! This reminds me of a movie from a few years ago...50 First Dates or something like that with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore?
ReplyDeleteSweet post. Have a great week.
Excellent choice for the letter B. Love the scarf and Begonia's attempts.
ReplyDeleteThe colors are brilliant so the "forgetfulness" is soon forgotten. One can appreciate the beauty!
ReplyDeleteOh what a lovely post, and the way you use the scarf, is so stunning and it's really quite beautiful with the fall colors. I love that she just keeps going....isn't that what we should all do.
ReplyDeleteThe scarf is so beautifully done, and I love the combination of colours.
ReplyDeleteHOw did you put that scarf along the comment section? Interesting.

I had to override some default Blogger CSS styles, then tweak the HTML template so that they'd only show up on this post. It took way longer than I'd hoped, and I certainly wouldn't want to do it for every post, but I think it was worth it for this one.
DeleteI wonder if that scarf gets longer, the more comments you get...
ReplyDeleteYes, it does!
DeleteExtraordinary blog. Your yarn about Begonia is as perfect as your never ending scarf♫
ReplyDeleteMy "yarn," very clever! Or did you slip a (Freudian) stitch?
DeleteI had to and read the "original pattern" to be familiar with the scarf. The post was very enjoyable--poor Begonia!

If anyone is still monitoring this page, I would love to know where you found this tidbit. I am curious as to whether Begonia Pope is still alive today, but all Google searches on her name ultimately lead to Doctor Who fan sites ... I am interested in the woman herself. Well, okay, the scarf too. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I hate to spoil it for you, Toni, but my story is a complete fiction, though based on Ms. Pope's famous scarf. Thanks for the comment.
