Bus

When the city decided to remove the crosswalk from the corner of Charles and Balmuto, Barbara got angry enough to call them up. She explained how the surrounding apartments are full of children who every day cross there on their way to school. She reminded them of Lidia Dykun who on April 4, 1979, died on that corner, who was finishing her second year of medical school at the University of Toronto when she fell under that bus, and how because of Lidia, Greycoach changed their route, and the city finally installed the crosswalk.
“But that was so long ago.”
